How We Make Your Custom Qipao or Tang Suit

Bespoke Chinese Wedding Dresses, Qipao & Tang Suits

At JINZA each piece follows a thoughtful couture process.

Our process is structured, with each step guiding the design and fit of your garment.

the 4-step process

Initial Consultation

We begin with a consultation to understand your occasion, preferences, and timeline.

Your process begins with a private consultation, either by Zoom or in our Los Angeles studio.

We discuss your story, color palette, and cultural symbols.

Step 1 Consultation – Designer sketching Qipao silhouette with client

Design & Fabric Selection

A design sketch is then developed to reflect your vision, from the neckline and silhouette to the placement of embroidery.

You select fabric based on the design, occasion, and level of formality.

You’ll view options of silks, brocades, and threads sourced from trusted workshops.

Each fabric is chosen for its weight, texture, and movement.

Pattern & Fitting

Once the design is approved, your personal pattern is drafted.

The fabric is then marked and prepared for cutting.

A muslin version is created first to test the proportions and fit before cutting the final fabric.

This stage ensures balance, comfort, and a silhouette made for you.

Hand embroidery on red silk Chinese wedding dress, artisan stitching traditional Qipao detail

Hand Embroidery

Our atelier specializes in Shu and Panjin embroidery, known for lifelike texture and Goldwork detail.

Motifs such as phoenix, dragon, and lotus are stitched thread by thread in silk and metallic fibres, giving the design depth and light.

Details such as embroidery, buttons, and finishing are defined and applied to the design.

Step 3 Fittings – Bride trying on bespoke Qipao during fitting

Tailoring & Finishing

After embroidery, the fabric panels are joined and the garment assembled.

Seams are aligned, trims and fastenings applied, and the structure shaped for comfort and proportion.

During the final fitting, we review the fit, balance, and comfort of the garment.

Any small adjustments are made to ensure ease of movement and natural proportion.

Once approved, the piece is pressed and prepared for collection.
