The styles of chinese wedding dresses

Traditional Chinese Wedding Dresses (Qun Kwa)
Qun Kwa is the most traditional Chinese wedding dress. It is a two-piece jacket and skirt, often covered with 50–100% hand embroidery. Dragons and phoenixes are common motifs, symbolizing harmony in marriage. Because of the embroidery density, Qun Kwa dresses can take up to 14 months to make and are considered heirloom pieces, often preserved or framed after the wedding.

Modern Chinese Wedding Dresses (Xiu He Fu)
Xiu He Fu is a later development of the Chinese wedding dress, designed with a fitted jacket and flared skirt for greater movement. Embroidery coverage is lighter than a Qun Kwa, with motifs like phoenixes, peonies, and auspicious clouds. It is suited for tea ceremonies, wedding portraits, or the traditional bed ceremony, offering elegance with more comfort and flexibility.

Red Chinese Wedding Dresses for Tea Ceremony
Some Chinese brides also choose to wear a Qipao, also called Cheongsam, for their wedding or tea ceremony. Unlike a Qun Kwa or Xiu He Fu, the Qipao is a one-piece dress with a slim silhouette. It may be embroidered with traditional motifs or kept simple in silk or lace. Brides often select the Qipao as a second look or modern alternative, and many continue to re-wear it after the wedding.

Matching Tang Suits for Grooms
Chinese wedding traditions often include matching attire for the bride and groom. At JINZA, we design bespoke Tang suits that pair with Qun Kwa, Xiu He Fu, and Wedding Qipao. Each Tang suit is tailored in Los Angeles, made with the same heirloom-quality silk and hand embroidery, and can be personalized with family symbols or zodiac motifs.
