JINZA founder drawing traditional Qipao design from memory after losing family records

About JINZA | Custom Qipao and Chinese Wedding Dresses

Founded by Grace, JINZA preserves heritage through custom Qipao, Tang suits, and Chinese wedding dresses

Our Story

JINZA was born from a journey of cultural loss, rediscovery, and pride. Founded by Grace, an Asian immigrant and mother, our mission is to revive the craftsmanship of traditional Chinese garments — from Qipao to wedding Kwa — and make them meaningful for the next generation.

JIN family story

A century-old photograph of our great-grandparents watches quietly over our studio—a guardian of love, heritage, and tradition. Every stitch we create carries their spirit, reminding us that clothing can be more than attire; it can be an heirloom of memory and pride.

Our logo comes from the JIN family crest, once engraved on a small traveling ink seal. That seal journeyed through generations, carrying the weight of history, the resilience of our ancestors, and the promise to preserve what is most precious—family and culture.

In Chinese, “JIN” means gold—a symbol of wisdom, clarity, communication, and self-confidence. These are the values that have carried our family through time, and they are the same values we weave into every bespoke piece. When you wear a JINZA creation, you are not just honoring your heritage—you are writing the next chapter of your own family’s story.

In the United States, we honor this legacy by creating heirloom pieces that bridge the past and future, carrying our family’s story into every stitch.

Grace's story

I didn’t grow up with wedding photos or family heirlooms. After the cultural war, everything was gone — the photos, the records, even the memory of what our family once made.
Years later, a bride asked me to make her a Qipao. I said yes — but first I had to study what we had lost. That moment led to a new beginning.
But it wasn’t a journey I took alone.

JINZA is not just a name — it’s a tribute.

Jin was my teacher, my biggest supporter, and the reason I am who I am today. She custom made my wedding dress. She taught me to sew from scratch. And because of her, I found the courage to leave my corporate job and open my own atelier in Los Angeles in 2013.

The name JINZA will stay — to honor her, and to remind us that teaching, support, and heritage are worth passing down.

Our Mission: Rebuilding History Through Hands and Heart

At JINZA, our mission is simple yet deeply personal: to study the stories, craftsmanship, and beauty of traditions that the world has nearly forgotten—and bring them back to life in the United States.

We used to believe many of these ancient techniques were lost with time. But as we searched, we found something incredible: the artists are still here. Quiet, humble, and often overlooked, these masters have spent their entire lives practicing the very embroidery and tailoring techniques passed down through generations.

We’re honored to learn from them, to collaborate with them, and to share their work with a new generation. Every piece we create is a tribute—not just to the past, but to the hands that still carry its spirit.

Through our work, we aim to rebuild history—not in a museum, but in the fabric of everyday life, in wedding ceremonies, family portraits, and cherished heirlooms. We believe cultural heritage isn’t something behind us. It’s something we can wear, celebrate, and pass on.

What we believe

This isn’t just about tradition. It’s about rebuilding what was lost — with intention, story, and love.

Many of our clients are the first in their families to bring these traditions back. Some never saw their grandparents’ weddings. Some have no photos left. But they’re starting something now — with meaning. With pride.

And sometimes, the most powerful legacy is the one we begin ourselves.
