Modern Cheongsam Dresses
what is a qipao?
Inspired by the grace of Old Shanghai, our traditional Qipao dresses honor the beauty of classic Chinese fashion.
Each piece features a fitted silhouette, high collar, side slits, and hand embroidery using Shu and Panjin goldwork techniques.
Made from fine silk brocade and adorned with symbols such as phoenixes, peonies, or clouds, every Qipao tells a story of love, joy, and renewal.
These dresses are often worn for tea ceremonies, weddings, and family celebrations that carry meaning beyond the day itself.
what is a cheongsam?
Our modern Cheongsam dresses bring a fresh voice to the traditional form.
Lighter silk, refined lines, and updated fabrics make each piece comfortable and versatile for today’s brides and events.
You may choose minimal embroidery for a subtle look or statement motifs that express your heritage with confidence.
Think of a modern Cheongsam as an elegant evening gown featuring a mandarin collar and traditional Pankou knot.

Choose Between Modern and Traditional Designs
Your choice depends on your vision, venue, budget, and personality.
Traditional Qipao styles reflect cultural authenticity, made from rich silk and detailed with hand embroidery of symbols. They tend to be more expensive when extensive embroidery is involved, as each motif is created by hand and takes months to complete.
Modern Cheongsam designs reinterpret the silhouette with lighter fabrics and simpler lines, offering comfort and quiet elegance while keeping the spirit of tradition.

When to Wear a Qipao or Cheongsam
Many brides wear a red Qipao dress for their tea ceremony or reception to show respect and gratitude to their families.
Ivory or pastel Cheongsam gowns are often chosen for weddings, engagement portraits, or formal events.
Some clients select a black or gold Cheongsam dress for evening galas or cultural celebrations.
Mothers and wedding guests typically choose complementary colors in softer tones and non-shiny fabrics to maintain an elegant balance beside the bride.

Craftsmanship and process
With more than twenty years of experience in high-end custom bridal design, our team understands both Western couture construction and traditional Chinese craftsmanship. This background allows us to create everything from the bias-cut silhouette of a modern Cheongsam to the intricate Pankou knot and hand-pressed chest shaping, also known as chest molding, found in a classic Qipao.
Our team sources fine silks, brocades, and lace from trusted international mills to achieve the right balance between structure and softness. Traditional Qipao makers rarely work with bias cuts, and modern Cheongsam makers often skip traditional details. At JINZA, we bring both worlds together to create dresses that fit beautifully.
